Exploring the local area – Concordia Sagittaria

Concordia Sagittaria was founded in 42 BC and originally known as Iulia Concordia. It was an important Roman settlement that developed between the Via Postumia and the Via Annia. It prospered over the centuries, drawing strength and inspiration from its river: the Lemene, which was known as the Reatinum flumen in ancient times. Concordia Sagittaria is now a charming town that combines Roman history with the modern world. Its exceptional balance of the past and the present is epitomized by the magnificent Cathedral of Santo Stefano and the winding pedestrian and cycle paths all around it. We will visit the frescoed Baptistery that complements the 4th century Cathedral, see the beautiful ancient remains of the Basilica Apostolorum Maior, and be enchanted by the surrounding natural environment and the sublime traditional cuisine of the town, whose cornerstones are fish and Lison-Pramaggiore DOC wines.

PROGRAMME:

Guided tour of Concordia Sagittaria, the Roman excavations, the Basilica and the Baptistery. Lunch in a traditional restaurant. Visit the Town Museum and free time for shopping.
