Exploring the local area – Portogruaro
On 10 January 1140, the Bishop of Concordia Sagittaria signed a deed that officially marked the founding of the town of Portogruaro. Houses, agricultural storage facilities, a river port and trading workshops began to spring up along the banks of the Lemene River. Over time, the middle classes established themselves and built Gothic and Romanesque homes here, as well as marvellously decorated stately buildings that are still the main attractions in the old town centre. There are countless beautiful sights in Portogruaro, from the 14th century Town Hall with its quintessentially Gothic façade to the age-old Fondaco Arch, the watermills that rotate slowly alongside the Lemene River and the welcoming narrow streets with a Venetian feel. The town benefits from its proximity to both the Adriatic Sea and the mountains of Friuli and Belluno. It offers the ideal balance between tradition and innovation. It is a place of rest and exploration that holds great appeal for lovers of sport and healthy living.
PROGRAMME:
Guided tour of Portogruaro and the Concordia National Archaeology Museum, followed by lunch in a traditional osteria with local products and wine. In the afternoon, a visit to the Town Museum and free time for shopping in the town centre.
